Natural Disasters
In the last 20 years, we’ve had 1.4 million forest fires, 20 earthquakes over the magnitude of 7, and over 2700 life-destroying cyclones. Why do you think this is happening? The answer is climate change. Ice glaciers are melting and scientists predict by 2100, most of the important coastal cities will be flooded.
There are little things that we do every day that cause climate change, using petrol or fuel cars, burning trash or throwing it into the ocean, using perfumes, deforestation, and charging devices over 100%. Little things like these do a large number of times cause Climate Change.
We know the causes, but what about the effects?
Climate change can have terrible impacts, freshwater will be in short supply in some areas, there will be more wars to gain access to limited resources and we will lose the capacity to do work. We can all feel that it is easier to work in winters than in summers. Why is that? In winters we spend less energy to do a thing, and in summers we spend more energy to do the same thing. There are more impacts that are worse.
All these impacts can be reduced by doing little things, like practicing the 3 r’s. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Unplug, sometimes we overcharge our devices just to get satisfaction. But in reality, it wastes energy and our money, just unplug! Next up, is being water-wise, I don’t even need to explain this, and the last one is travel green – walk, cycle, use public transport, carpool! Because why not?
In the past 2 years, we have had the Covid-19 pandemic, the locust outbreak in Africa, the wildfires in Australia as well as California, and cyclone Amphan in India. Natural disasters like these will become more and more frequent and severe, although people think it is normal, it is not. It will end up killing the whole of humanity, none of us want that. We only have 1 more decade to stop irreversible damage by climate change. We cannot stop climate change, but we can surely delay it.
