Causes of the Climate Crisis

Human activity is the main cause of climate change. People burn fossil fuels and convert land from forests to agriculture. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, people have burned more and more fossil fuels and changed vast areas of land from forests to farmland. ~Causes for rising emissions •Burning coal, oil, and gas produces carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. •Cutting down forests (deforestation). •Increasing livestock farming. •Fertilisers containing nitrogen produce nitrous oxide emissions. •Fluorinated gases are emitted from equipment and products that use these gases. •Power Plants. •Transportation •Deforestation •Fertilizers •Oil Drilling. •Natural Gas Drilling. Find ways to help the environment.  Be part of the solution, not part of the pollution. Do your bit against climate change today. Author: Varisha Bhatt

The Depleting Ozone Layer

Climate change harms the environment in many ways. Its major effect is the depletion of the ozone layer. The sun emits damaging UV (Ultra Violet) rays towards the planet.  UV exposure increases the risk of potentially blinding eye diseases if eye protection is not used. Overexposure to UV radiation can lead to serious health issues, including skin cancer. It also results in the stunted growth of plants.

The Ozone layer, located in the Stratosphere, blocks these UV rays and prevents them from harming the planet. The greenhouse gases released by factories, etc. damage the Ozone layer and have started making holes in it. These holes allow the sun's harmful rays to penetrate into the Earth. This is the reason why skin cancer is common in the US.

To conclude, if you want your future generations to also be protected by the Ozone layer and not go outside in full, body-covering suits, you must prevent climate change. Do your part against climate change today.
